• Very beautiful and large relief print etching & aquatint made in 1979 by the famous Hague graphic artist and visual artist Wim Bettenhausen (1942-). In a very small edition of only 12 copies, printed on thick paper, signed, numbered, titled and dated in pencil. In excellent condition.

"Backlight, long shadows, houses that have stood the test of time, curls of an old fence... The regularity of pavement tiles or lampposts... Old stations with a lot of cast iron, then again sleek apartment buildings that stand out gray against the horizon, all that inspires me again and again to make etchings. Perhaps it is also the technique of etching that lends itself to such subjects. The variation in line is perhaps unlimited. This also applies to the aquatints that can be applied in all possible ways and are very atmospheric. I often saw out my etchings, so that the white of the paper suggests the sky and the subject looks like a silhouette. For years I was occupied with cityscapes; in recent years the influence of nature has become increasingly greater and is almost indispensable. I find the combination of nature and architecture wonderful: a misty autumn forest, dark vegetation from which a building rises, reed clumps that are reflected in the water, silhouettes of trees or mills in a juicy meadows that are beautiful in their simplicity."
