  • You are bidding on a beautiful hand-colored lithograph on paper, made in 1952 by the Rotterdam photographer/graphic artist Wally Elenbaas (1912-2008). Very small edition (this is no. 12 of a total of 18 copies). Large size (60x40cm) and in very good condition (except for some irregular edges) beautiful colors! pencil signed, dated and numbered.

Wally Elenbaas was a well-known Rotterdam artist who was born in 1912. Initially he focused on photography. In 1947 he shifted his focus to lithography and when that became too much for him in 1970 he threw himself into screen printing.
He had regular exhibitions, received major commissions and won several prizes. He worked as a teacher at the art academy in Rotterdam for four years.
He married Esther Hartog from Amsterdam, who conquered a place for herself in photography during their marriage. Through her, he stayed in touch with her and always took pictures of her everywhere. Esther died in 1998. As a requiem and tribute to her, he compiled a book with 'the hundred faces of Esther Hartog'.
When there was enough money, Wally and Esther made long journeys to deserted regions and foreign language areas.
In the 80s he returned to his childhood sweetheart, photography, but she had stopped by then.
In October 2006, Wally received the honorary medal from the city of Rotterdam for his entire oeuvre from the mayor of Rotterdam Ivo Opstelten at the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen.
