Lilian van Opdorp Sworn Translator & Interpreter Russian-Dutch Dutch-Russian | Russian lesson | subtitler Russia. Before I started working professionally with the Russian language and culture as an interpreter and translator, my interest in Russia existed for a long time. It all started in high school with Chekhov's De Meeuw, which we staged in the Groningen City Theater. After my studies at the Art Academy, where the interest in Russian abstract painting arose, I studied for a year in Moscow at the Art Academy in 1990 with a scholarship from the Dutch Ministry of Education and Science. That was a very special time. Russia was still the Soviet Union, the people were very nice, you could only make yourself understood with Russian, there were long queues in front of the shops and at the end sugar, butter and sausage were on the receipt. Since that year my affinity with Russia has been a common thread in my work as a visual artist and to this day I participate annually in exhibitions and exchange projects with Russia. Interpreting and Translation Because I am often in Russia for my work and I want to be able to communicate with people, I obtained certificates for Russian grammar and translation at the University of Groningen in 1997. After the bachelor's degree in Russian-language interpreting at ITV Utrecht, I was sworn in as a Russian-Dutch Dutch-Russian Translator & Interpreter in 2013. In addition, I guided Dutch people through Russia for a number of years as a tour leader of cultural tours. I now understand, speak, read and write the language effortlessly and I have extensive experience as an interpreter and translator in all kinds of situations. I still have not unraveled the Russian soul, but after all these years of intensive contact with the country I am at least certain that it exists.
