Joost Swarte (Heemstede, December 24, 1947) is a Dutch comics artist and graphic designer. He is most famous for his "clear line" and coined this term.
The comic book author coined the term 'clear line' as a defining style characteristic for his work in 1976 at a Hergé exhibition in Rotterdam. In this context, Swarte refers to a pure drawing style with the following characteristics: clear contour lines, bright colored areas without line perspective via shadow without details.
