- Hubert Bekman was born on 4 November 1896 in Voorburg and died on 29 July 1974 in The Hague. Studied at the Hague Academy, among others. Mainly formed himself. Member of Verve, Pulchri Studio, the Hague Art Circle and "Graphische". Before the Second World War he was a member of "De Groep" with Jan van Heel, Rein Draijer and Jan Franken Pzn. Belonged to the Voorburg artistic workgroup De Nieuwe Ploeg in the fifties.
Worked a lot in Limburg. Painter, graphic artist and sculptor. Etchings, linocuts, woodcuts and lithographs. Work in the Gemeentemuseum Den Haag, van Abbemuseum in Eindhoven and in the Rijkscollectie.
In 1932 Hubert Bekman won the Vigelius Prize together with Sierk Schroeder and in 1952 the Jacob Maris Prize for Graphics (Material Prize).
