Frans Vendel maakt gebruik van een minimalistische vormtaal en een reductieve esthetiek. Het werk gaat over essentie. De vorm is de inhoud. Orde, regelmaat, ritme en systematiek spelen hierbij een belangrijke rol.
De vorm van de drager (vierkant, rechthoekig of cirkelvormig) ziet Vendel als een belangrijk onderdeel van de totale compositie, omdat deze de omtreklijnen van de voorstelling bepaalt. Hij werkt met geometrische vormen of vlakken, de kleuren zijn helder en primair.
