Ben van Voorn werkte vanaf 1947 voor de Toonder Studio’s in Amsterdam als illustrator. Eerst enkele jaren in vaste dienst, later als freelancer. Zo tekende hij o.a. tot eind 1969 de achtergronden voor de bekende Bommelstrip. In zijn stille atelier in Yde experimenteerde hij met allerlei technieken; hield samen met kunstenaar en vriend Jan Schroot 30 jaar lang een dagboek bij, geïllustreerd met vele vaak humoristische pentekeningen en paginagrote aquarellen. Hij schilderde dromerige landschappen en verstilde stillevens in olieverf en aquarel.
