Verner Panton (1926-1998)

Verner Panton (1926-1998)

Verner PANTON (Funen (island) 1926 – Copenhagen 1998)

One of Denmark's most influential 20th century furniture and interior designers. During his career he designed innovative and futuristic furniture in a wide range of materials, especially plastics, and in bright colours. His style reflected the spirit of the 1960s but regained popularity at the end of the twentieth century. His best-known designs are still in production, at Vitra for example.

Panton was educated by that other well-known Danish furniture designer and architect, Arne Jacobsen. In 1960, Panton designed the first chair that consisted of a flowing piece of plastic. The Panton Chair or the S chair would become his most famous design.
