Sjef Hutschemakers (1931)
Sjef Hutschemakers was born in Banholt in 1931. After secondary school he attended the Applied Arts School and the Jan van Eyck Academy in Maastricht. For Sjef Hutschemakers, farm life is often the source of inspiration for the production of the many paintings and etchings. He makes the tempera paint himself in a traditional way, with which works of art such as the potato pickers, the syrup maker, the pear pickers, the sower, mother earth and the harvester are created.
Sjef Hutschemakers is also the epitome of a genuinely religious person, who produces both profane and religious work. Etchings and paintings with subjects such as the procession, the Nativity and Stations of the Cross. Versatile as he is, the artist also practices glazing. He recently put the finishing touches to a number of monumental stained glass windows for the church of Oirsbeek.
