His design practices are closely associated with Glasfabriek Leerdam (today: Royal Leerdam), where he is employed as a permanent designer. Van der Marel's designs are clear and simple, looking for timelessness. Hope plays an important role in his design style, which he expresses with the colors of the rainbow.
