Peer Veneman (1952) was educated at the St. Joost Academy of Art and Design in Breda, where he graduated in 1975. His work is in the collections of the Kröller-Müller Museum, Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam and the Groninger Museum, among others. Important works in public space are the sculpture Haan (1993) in the Spaarndammerplantsoen in Amsterdam, the Fontein (1997) on the Krugerplein in the same city and a number of untitled wall sculptures on the municipal cleaning building in Zoetermeer (2001). As an artist, Peer Veneman not only moves between figuration and abstraction, he also blurs the boundaries between common art disciplines. Although sculpting is his main subject, the sculptures are often painted and/or constructed from horizontal and standing parts, as if it were a piece of architecture. In addition, he makes two-dimensional work, in which he effortlessly combines the different techniques – drawing, painting, printing and photography. Many of his images are derived from the art-historical tradition, but never without their own interpretation. Veneman lives and works alternately in Amsterdam and Torrano in Italy.
