Paul KONEWKA (Greifswald 1841 - Berlin 1871)

Paul Konewka was a silhouette cutter and illustrator, known for his detailed paper cut artworks. He began his career in Berlin, where he worked in the studios of Friedrich Drake and Adolph Menzel. In 1867 he moved to Stuttgart and created his most important works there, including illustrations for Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream" (1868) and "Falstaff" (1870). His last work was the children's book "Der schwarze Peter", with texts by his brother-in-law Johannes Trojan. Konewka's art is praised for its rich imagination, humor, and refined sense of form.
