Matteo THUN (Bolzano 1952)
Matteo Thun's work is driven by experimentation and breaking boundaries. He is known for his unusual designs for ceramics with geometric shapes, wavy lines and zigzag elements. Thun was trained as a designer at the University of Florence, the Academy of Oskar Kokoschka and UCLA. Marco Zanini got him a job at Sottsass Associati, Ettore Sottsass' design agency. In 1981, Thun co-founded the Memphis design group. During this period he also taught at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Vienna. Three years later, he left and started his own design studio in Milan. In the same year he wrote his manifesto The Baroque Bauhaus. Since 2001, Thun has worked with Antonio Rodriguez under the name Matteo Thun & Partners.
