Marinus Adrianus Koekkoek (1807-1868)
Marinus Adrianus KOEKKOEK was a student of his father JH Koekkoek. Initially he was a house painter and ran a painting shop. In 1837 he went to Kleve in Germany to be apprenticed to his brother Barend Cornelis. His broad landscapes, mainly summer scenes, are wide and open; the groves less heavy than those in his brother's work. The small human and animal figures in his landscapes illustrate the romantic idea: the greatness of nature versus the insignificance of man. Museums: including Museum Jan Cunen in Oss, museums in the United States, England and Belgium.
