Lucio FONTANA (Rosario de Santa Fe 1899 - Comabbio 1968)
Visual artist - Painter - Concept Art
Lucio Fontana, followed a traditional sculpture training in Milan at Accademia di Brera from 1928 to 1930. After his sculpture training in Milan, Fontana returned to Argentina in 1921. To return to Milan from 1927 to study and live. In 1937 the visual artist returned to Argentina again and finally settled permanently in Milan in 1947.
Lucio Fontana was an Argentine-Italian visual artist. Fontana mainly made abstract works of art and was one of the first artists to create environments. Lucio Fontana, is mainly known for the actual action he inflicted on his canvases. He stood in front of a prepared, often monochromatic, stretched canvas. After he had a certain concentration, he suddenly lashed out with a knife and stabbed his cloth. These cuts are called "tagli". The linen painting tears and under the pressure of the knife the space behind the painting becomes visible. He looked for accurate cuts that were refined in shape and rhythm. At Fontana, the painting equals the action. Artist Fontana has been a great source of inspiration for the Zero movement and the Zero group.
