Lily van der Stokker (1954)
The Dutch artist Lily van der Stokker (1954) became known for her works on optimism and kindness. Born in Den Bosch; lives and works in Amsterdam and New York.
Her murals are filled with fluorescent colors and decorative shapes. Her cheerful, direct and sometimes confrontational works are a response to current themes in the art world. When she first makes compositions on a small scale, she lets them intervene on a magnified scale in the (public) space. Van der Stokker executed murals in numerous museums, galleries and art institutions in Europe and America. For Boijmans Van Beuningen in Rotterdam, Van der Stokker made two colorful wall-filling 3-dimensional murals with the texts 'Terrible' and 'Why do it'.
