Leendert (Leo) Voormolen (Rotterdam, August 5, 1943 – September 27, 2008) was a Dutch visual artist.
Voormolen was a self-taught artist who developed from graphic design into a painter of 'flat work'. He used latex paint. His work often developed in two stages. He started with a working drawing, a small version of the final painting. He developed this into a painting. He also used color gradients from light to dark and vice versa. He mixed the required colors himself according to a mixing formula developed by himself. The characteristics of Voormolen's work are: light, power, explosiveness, perfectionism, opposition and a certain degree of spirituality. He got his inspiration from, among other things, his childhood, children and wife, but also the fight against pain. He suffered from extreme recurrent headaches. A red line through his life was also his love for the underground scene of the big city and music: the ideals and the concerts in the small club circuit, from hippie in the 60s to the punk of the 70s and 80s. also characterized his own work as 'Artcore', referring to the relationship between rebellious music and the intended expressions of power in his work.
