The Haarlem painter Leo de Winter was self-taught. He drew and painted cityscapes, portraits, still lifes and landscapes in a naturalistic and impressionistic style. He found inspiration mainly in the surroundings of his hometown of Haarlem: scenes in warm colors of the sea, the Spaarne and the western port of Amsterdam. De Winter was very versatile and a versatile artist, he has been involved in many disciplines such as graphics, watercolor, drawing and painting in the fifty years of his artistry. In 1938 he co-founded Kunstkring De Acht, which still meets in the Haarlemse Waag.
