Koninklijke Van Kempen & Begeer NV started in 1835 at the silver workshop of JM van Kempen (1814-1877), whose father was admitted to the guild as a master in 1789. When Van Kempen moved to Utrecht in 1858, a more modern factory was built under the name JM Kempen (en Zonen), then it also obtained the designation 'royal'. The company continued to expand by adding skills and production methods. For example, the department for galvanoplasty was created where silver sculptures could be made. When JM Kempen died, his son became the leader of the company. At this point it was an international and industrial company. In 1919, Van Kempen merged with the company of Begeer and the firm of Vos & Co to form the KNEB (Royal Dutch Edelmetaal Berbedrijven Van Kempen, Begeer and Vos). In 1960 the KNEB further merged with the Koninklijke Fabriek van Gouden en Zilveren Werken Gerritsen en Van Kempen to form the Koninklijke Van Kempen & Begeer. Since 2008, Van Kempen & Begeer has been part of the Royal Delft Group.
