Karel Marinus Hendrikus COLNOT (Bergen, Noord-Holland, 2 September 1921, there, 31 March 1996) was a Dutch painter, draftsman, etcher, lithographer, engraver, sculptor, watercolorist and wall painter. He was a son of the painter Arnout Colnot, whose he took lessons for a while. Apart from a number of trips abroad, he mainly worked in Bergen NH. His early work belongs to the Bergen School. The artist Otto de Kat wrote that Karel Colnot could grow into a meritorious painter, although his father thought otherwise. If you asked Karel Colnot about his development as a painter, he would say; Oh, you know how that goes. You are painting a bit and then Dirk Klomp comes by and asks does your father ever look at it? Then the same Dirk Klomp went to my father and said to him: Well, now you can take care of your son. Around 1960 Karel Colnot left the style of the Bergen School. He started to work more in the style of the French painter C_zanne.
