Jon Marten was educated at St. Joost in Breda and Eyck Academy in Maastricht.
He lives and works in Haarlem.
When Jon Marten had finished his training, he mainly carried out Glass in Lead assignments until 1960. After that he stopped taking assignments and left for Amsterdam where he settled.
In the eighties Jon Marten was part of the 'IJmuider Kring', with artists such as Jaap Mooij, Theo Kuypers, Gérard van den Eerenbeemt, Pieter Defesche and Lei Molin. The landscape is a great source of inspiration for Jon Marten's work. Marten's work represents a different world, a different reality.
Martens himself describes his work as a violent attack on unknown forces in nature. 'Fragments'. Martens says: 'I try as much as possible to let these inner fragments run their own course. It sends me while working to one of the slides, which are stored in me. That's about how it goes. Jon Marten works extensively in the Dominican Republic, and has regular exhibitions in the Caribbean.
