Education: Jesus Rafael Soto attends the Academy of Fine Arts Caracas here he graduated in 1947. In the period from 1947 - 1950 Jesus Rafael Soto was Director of the Academy of Fine Arts Maracaibo.
Soto is known for his contribution to the development of op art as kinetic art. Jesus Rafael Soto left for Paris in 1950, where he soon came into contact with the newly founded Atelier d'Art abstrait and took part in the Salon des Realites Nouvelles. In 1954 Soto's work was noticed by Vasarely, among others, and he quickly came into contact with other artists associated with Galerie Denise Rene.
