Jan STRUBE (Amsterdam 1892 – Breda 1985)
After the craft school, Jan Strube followed his education at the Quellinus School, a painting and drawing school that was the predecessor of the Rietveld Academy. After his military service during the First World War, Strube became a member of the artists' club De Onafhankelijken and later also of Arti et Amicitiae. After the birth of his second daughter in 1927, Strube and his wife exchanged Amsterdam for a house near Breda. In 1933, together with three other artists, he founded the Bredasche Kunstkring, with which he became a well-known figure in Breda. Strube is best known for his lithographs of the Brabant landscape and farm life. He also made still lifes in oil paint. The Friends of Jan Strube foundation honors his artistic memory and organizes exhibitions and lectures.
Since the foundation of the Bredasche Kunstkring, Strube's work has been exhibited regularly in Breda and other places in Brabant. His work still hangs in the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam and Breda, among others.
