Jan STEKELENBURG (Maasbree 1922 - Deventer 1977)
Education: Jan Stekelenburg was educated at the Rijksacademie in Amsterdam. After his studies, he undertook various study trips to Italy and France, among other places, where he would settle later in life.
Jan Stekelenburg one of the first abstract artists in the Netherlands after the war. Characteristic of his work is that it is not completely abstract. In addition to the visible aspects, he also shows emotional values in his works. Jan Stekelenburg's works can best be described as spherical work in which form and color go together in harmony. In 1951 Jan Stekelenburg joins Liga Nieuw Beelden, an association to which most modernists and Cobra members joined.
