Herman Johannes van der WEELE (Middelburg 1852 - The Hague 1930)
Van der Weele originally worked in his birthplace Middelburg at sea and harbor works. Only later did he move to The Hague where he obtained his diploma at the Teekenschool. He worked in this area, but also in the Veluwe, where, in addition to drawing, he also painted, watercolored and etched a lot. He painted many landscapes with livestock, especially sheep. The Hague school painter Anton Mauve had a great deal of influence on him, which is also reflected in the work of Van der Weele. He also had a lot of contact with Van Gogh and Breitner, who admired his works. Works by Van der Weele are on display in the Gemeentemuseum in The Hague, among other places.
