Henri KLEY (Delft 1903 - Apeldoorn 1977)
Pupil of Huib Luns. Paints, watercolors and draws (pastel) in expressionist style figures, still lifes, seascapes and landscapes. Also graphic work: etchings, lithographs, wood and copper engravings. His father was Professor Ir.PDCKley who gave lectures in Microchemistry and Metallography at the Technische Hogeschool in Delft. Henri Kley went to a modern primary school in The Hague, where it soon became apparent that little Henri had an aptitude for drawing. Initially he followed in his father's footsteps, graduating as an engineer at TU Delft. In 1935 that changed. .Under the direction of Prof. dr. Huib Luns (the father of the later Minister of Foreign Affairs Joseph M. Luns) he studied for 5 years at the Amsterdam Academy of Visual Arts. Henri went to live with his wife Mathilde and daughter Francina in Loenen, where his father had a house on the Dalenk. Henri was a nature person and preferred to be surrounded by it. The Veluwe landscape was even too tame for him. He ascended the peaks of the Pyrenees, he went to the tree line in Lapland, he tossed in a small boat through the autumn storms along the dikes of the Delta Works. In his floral paintings he had a preference for roses and rhododendrons, which he brought to the canvas. Wildly painted, but beautiful.
