Gustavsberg (1825)

Gustavsberg

Gustavsberg is a major manufacturer of ceramics and porcelain and can be traced back to Gustav Gabrielsson Oxenstierna and his brick factory in the seventeenth century. The porcelain factory in Gustavsberg has been in existence since 1825. Wilhelm Kåge started the Gustavsberg Studio in 1942, which gave the factory more fame as a designer of special artistic ceramic objects. Artistic director Kåge was succeeded in 1949 by Stig Lindberg.

In the 1990s, the Dutch company and pottery manufacturer Sphinx becomes the property of Gustavsberg. During the same period, the factory was divided into smaller departments such as Gustavsberg VVS AB and Gustavsberg Vårgårda Armatur AB (Vårgårda Armatur was acquired in 1987). In 2000 Villeroy & Boch became the owner of the brand.
