Gust Romijn (1922-2010)

Gust ROMIJN (Noordwijkerhout 1922 - Dreischor 2010)

Romijn initially trained as an architect and started painting and sculpting in 1943. In the 1950s, together with Louis van Roode and Piet Rovers, he belonged to the 'Venstergroep', consisting of young graphic artists from Rotterdam. He was one of the artists who collaborated on E55, for which he made a wall painting measuring 6 by 2 meters. In that period he joined the Liga Nieuw Beelden. He took part in the World Exhibition in Brussels (1958). In the 1960s, Romijn lived in New York for a short time. Back in the Netherlands, he became a teacher at the Rotterdam Academy and the Free Academy in The Hague. Romijn lived and worked in Rotterdam until he moved to Dreischor in 1982. Romijn was awarded the National 5 May Graphics Prize (1955) and the Prix Suisse (1957).
