Frans ROOM (Wormer 1938 - Wormerveer 2023)
At the age of 18 he came into contact with the Zaanse painter-graphic artist Gerrit de Jong, from whom he took lessons for several years. Frans is a versatile person. Besides being a visual artist, he was also an author and publisher. He roamed Europe and North Africa with his mobile studio for several years and was seen at pop festivals and theater tours with his light show for many years.
Over time he has gone through many styles and tried all kinds of materials and techniques. He eventually settled back in the Zaan region and has a studio in Wormerveer. In 1995 he started a series of screen prints about the lighthouses of the Netherlands. He says: "What strikes me about Dutch lighthouses is their great diversity. Not only in age (1594 to 1970), construction and building materials used, but also the environment in which they are found is very diverse. This maritime heritage has become virtually redundant due to the introduction of new electronic navigation systems. It is therefore high time to record them in all their glory for posterity."
His passion is the landscape, especially the traces of man in it. To his regret, large parts of this landscape are disappearing. That is why he has been recording it for years.
