Cole MORGAN (New York 1950)

Education:
In 1971 Morgan received his Bachelor of Arts from the University of New Mexico. He then studied art history and lithography in Florence and attended classes at the Free Academy in The Hague from 1973 to 1974.
Cole Morgan currently lives and works in Antwerp.
In his early days, Cole Morgan mainly made hyper-realistic pencil drawings, in which cowboys and Indians were often the subject. Later his work has become abstract expressionist. Morgan composes collages based on mathematical laws. Figurative elements in his work are feathers, stones, paper, shells, wood and sometimes houses and churches. He still applied some features of photorealism in his abstract work, including working with shadow.
After his studies Morgan gave drawing and painting lessons in Dublin. From 1975 to 1992 he worked in The Hague.
Exhibitions and prizes:
In 1992 Morgan received the Van Ommeren-de Voogt Prize. His work has been exhibited in Zurich, Cologne, Hong Kong, San Francisco, Beijing and Chicago, among others.
