Alexandre CALAME (May 28, 1810 - March 19, 1864) was a French/Swiss painter and draftsman. Born in Arabia, France, son of a stonemason in Vevey. Because his father gambled the family fortune, Alexandre Calame was unable to attend Art School, but was forced to work in a bank from the age of 15. When his father passed away, it was up to young Calame to take care of his mother. in his spare time he began to practice drawing landscapes.
