Wouter van Smorenburg (Hilversum 1880-1918 Muiderberg) was only 38 years old, but was very talented. He is one of the painters who were inspired by the polder land and the lakes around Muiderberg and Kortenhoef.
Initially he worked in the dark palette of the Hague School (of which the work offered here is an example) but between 1910 and 1915 he innovated.
Oil paint on a panel that is glued to a thick wooden plate. The panel is partly cracked in 3 places and has been restored. There is crackle. Overall a very presentable and quite clean painting. The large original frame is in fair to good condition apart from some wear.
