Wilhelmus (Wim) van Woerkom (Nijmegen, 8 March 1905 – ibid., 28 February 1998) was a Dutch stained glass artist, graphic artist, painter and draftsman.
Van Woerkom was a son of the merchant Theodorus Johannes van Woerkom (1867-1931) and Louisa Josephina Maria Wolters (1875-1932). He married Joanna Maria (Lolo) Hanau (1910-2000), from this marriage four children were born.
Van Woerkom trained as a teacher at the Royal School for Useful and Visual Arts (1921-1924) in Den Bosch with Huib Luns, Piet Slager and August Falise, and had an advertising agency for some time. He continued his studies with Isidore Opsomer at the Higher Institute for Fine Arts (1926-1929) in Antwerp. He painted cityscapes, landscapes, portraits and still lifes and also made decors and graphic work. As a stained glass artist he made glass appliqués and stained glass windows. He had his own studio, but had larger glasswork made by the Flos studio in Steyl.[3] From 1936 to the 1960s he designed vestments for the Stadelmaier company, including a banner that was presented to Pope Pius XII in 1955 and the vestments that Monsignor Bekkers wore at his episcopal consecration in 1957.
Together with his eldest daughter Jehanne he made a nativity scene with life-size, cloth-covered statues for the Petrus Canisius church in Nijmegen. He was responsible for the statues, Jehanne for the clothing.
From 1937 to 1969 Van Woerkom was a teacher at the Academy of Fine Arts in Arnhem, where he taught Rik van Bentum, Gaby Bovelander, Hubert Estourgie, Diet Meijer and Gab Smulders, among others. He was a member of Sint Lucas, the St. Bernulphusgilde, board member of the Scheppend Ambacht Gelderland and chairman of the General Catholic Artists' Association.
The artist exhibited several times. In 1985, on the occasion of his eightieth birthday, a retrospective exhibition took place in the Commanderie van Sint Jan. He died in 1998, shortly before his 93rd birthday. He was buried in the Catholic cemetery in Berg en Dal.
