  • Alexander Franciscus Willem Emile van Schoonhoven van Beurden, also known as Willy Schoonhoven van Beurden, was born in 1883 in Roermond. During his life he moved several times from Roermond to Maastricht, Amsterdam, Laren, Emmen, Anloo and Zuidlaren. Van Schoonhoven Van Beurden was a pupil at the Rijksnormaalschool in Amsterdam. He was taught by Rob Graafland, Emanuël van Beever and Jan Toorop. He made paintings, drawings and etchings of landscapes, flowers, figures and cityscapes.

Van Schoonhoven van Beurden became an art history teacher at the Amsterdam Lyceum. He taught Ali Alsema, Cornelis Postma, Riek Palache and Jelle Troelstra. He was also a member of 'de onafafhankelijkiJken' in Amsterdam, this group is the Dutch version of Salon des Indépendants from Paris. They are known for their exhibitions without a jury to include the prevailing image in art and culture, the group strived for more freedom in art.

In the summer of Schoonhoven van Beurden stayed in the Netherlands, he traveled to the south of Limburg, Utrecht and the Gooi. In the winters he traveled to Switzerland and Austria. He died in 1963 at the age of eighty in Zuidlaren.
