Victor Dooms - Mill and haystack in a landscape

Vic Dooms, or Victor Dooms, was a Belgian artist born in Sint-Martens-Latem in 1912 and died in Ghent in 1994. He was a painter. Professionally he worked in Vilvoorde where he attended classes at the Portaelsschool from 1932 to 1939 under the guidance of Joseph Bouüaert and Jules Brouwers. He settled back in Sint-Martens-Latem in 1939. He created landscapes, harbour views, interiors, still lifes, flowers and portraits. Lyrical, contemplative and intimate painter. He was not a flamboyant personality and preferred the intimacy of the home and the peace of the unspoilt Leien nature. He was clearly inspired by silence and introspection. Called himself a tonalist, someone who brought the mostly unnoticed environment or banal worn objects back to life and poetry through matchless colours. Work a.o. in the Museum in Ghent.
