Vera Galis (Delft, 1959) is a Dutch artist who comes from a family of artists and architects. She lives and works in Gorinchem. Galis focuses on creating small and large, delicately balanced metal objects. Her works are characterized by – and sometimes consist entirely of – combinations of various types of metal (such as: stainless steel, alpaca, copper, brass, silver and gold). Although the hardness of the materials Galis prefers to work with would not suggest this, her works are often exceptionally lightweight, spacious and usually open. Her work is based on a simple, three-dimensionally repeating module. This characteristic of her works is reminiscent of Gerrit Rietveld and De Stijl. Galis' work is included in the collection of Museum Boijmans van Beuningen and the Gorcums Museum. She has carried out assignments for, among others, Philips in Eindhoven (Evoluon), KLM OCC in Schiphol, Zen building in Utrecht and the Government Buildings Agency (PI Zwolle and Heerhugowaard). A huge object by her hand hangs in the atrium of the government building on Rijnstraat in The Hague. In addition, her works have found their way into private collections.
