Vadim Stein is a visual artist, art director and photographer born in the Ukraine in 1967.
In the early nineties, he worked as an actor and light designer at the Theater of Plastic Drama, studying decorative sculpture and graphics where he began to experiment with photography. The dancer quickly become his favorite subject. His long-term research into the visual language of dance involves close relationships with many of the important international dance companies and theatres around the world.
His powerful images present world-class, professional dancers against solid, unadorned backgrounds and a simple black-and-white aesthetic - an unpretentious stage on which all the focus is on the figures as they theatrically twist, bend and contort themselves into seemingly impossible positions. His photographs are an invitation to the viewer to journey into an original and obsessive appreciation of beauty.
