  • Theodorus (Theo) Gerardus L'Herminez (Tilburg 1921 – Tilburg 1997) was initially mainly an advertising designer and attended the predecessor of the Academy for Visual Education between 1958 and 1961. In his early period he mainly painted landscapes and cityscapes. After experimental, impressionist, expressionist and figurative periods, from the 1990s onwards he mainly made magical realist portraits, related to the work of Carel Willink, among others. L'Herminez developed a personal style with women as the most important subject. Tilburg City Museum owns five canvases by L'Herminez, including a youth work with a naturalistic representation of the former surroundings of Hasseltplein and more impressionistic views of the NS shunting yard at Eenhouderstraat (1961) and of the former Emmastraat (1961). L'Herminez led a secluded life in Goirle in the last years of his life. His wife Marit was also an accomplished artist.
In 1999, two years after his death, the biography was published: The forbidden fruits of Theo L'Herminez 1921-1997.
