Beerendonk heeft een imposant oeuvre opgebouwd met stillevens, portretten, naakten maar ook abstract werk. Theo Beerendonk studeerde tussen 1925 en 1931 aan de Rijksacademie in Amsterdam. In 1966 kreeg Beerendonk een aanstelling als conservator in bij het Rembrandthuis, waar hij demonstraties gaf van etskunst.
Recent is het werk van Theo Beerendonk tentoongesteld bij EICAS in Deventer (van 21 oktober 2023 tot en met 28 januari 2024, georganiseerd door Museum EICAS samen met het Museum Henriette Polak in Zutphen onder de titel Theo Beerendonk, Altijd in beweging
