Van Egmond was een aquarellist, graficus en schilder. In de periode 1903 - 1912 werkte hij op het atelier van de Haarlemse kunstenaar Frans Loots. Bij hem kreeg hij lessen die hij bekostigde uit zijn inkomen dat hij verdiende als huisschilder.
