Biography: Philip Lodewijk Jacob Frederik Sadee (The Hague, 7 February 1837 - The Hague, 14 December 1904) was an artist belonging to the Hague School. Sadee started painting at the age of 20. Initially he painted Biblical scenes and history paintings, later he focused on everyday life. In Scheveningen he came into contact with fishermen's life. He was fascinated by this and the beach and dunes became a source of inspiration for him, but he also painted cityscapes. Characteristic of Sadee are the bright colours. Sadee studied together with Julius van de Sande Bakhuyzen in Dusseldorf. He has traveled to Belgium, Germany, France and Italy. Sadee held the position of senior lecturer at the Hague Drawing Academy.
