Paul Jan van der Ven (Amsterdam, October 30, 1892 – Bloemendaal, July 17, 1972), painter, draftsman and etcher. He lived and worked in Amsterdam, Arnhem, Heemstede, Huizen (NH) and since 1951 Amsterdam. As a student of the 'Art Exercise' society in Arnhem, he was taught by Sieger Baukema and Jacob Hendrik Geerlings. He also took lessons from Klaas van Leeuwen and Heinrich Martin Krabbé. Paul van der Ven painted cityscapes, landscapes, portraits and still lifes in a more or less naturalistic manner. He also made pen drawings and etchings. He taught Martin Korff. (Source: RKD, Scheen) From a review: 'His early work had the static beauty inherent in academic perfectionism taken to extremes. These works were painted with a fine pointed brush, are solid in color and show a certain contrast in the color scheme. His later work shows a free, more impressionistic touch.
