Maria Elisabeth Deinum was born on May 22, 1907 in Semarang and died in Haarlem in 1985. She attended the Applied Arts School in Haarlem and took painting lessons with Lizzy Ansingh. She received lessons in the profession of illustrator from well-known illustrators such as B. Midderigh-Bokhorst and Herman Moerkerk. Although she mainly worked as a painter, around 1936 she worked for two years as an illustrator for the Spaarnestad.
