We are the support association of the former Langenstein - Zwieberge concentration camp. The camp was a subcamp of the Buchenwald concentration camp. 7000 prisoners from 34 nations were forced to do forced labor there. The camp was founded in April 1944 and was liberated by American soldiers on April 9, 1945. In the last year of the war, war-critical production was relocated underground. Within a year, the prisoners had to dig a 13km long tunnel into the Thekenberge near Halberstadt under inhumane conditions. 2000 prisoners lost their lives due to the Nazi principle of "extermination through work". They were supposed to work in aircraft production.
The support association supports the memorial in many ways. Among other things, we collect donations to put name plates for the murdered prisoners on the mass graves so that they can regain their identity.
For this purpose, the German Matt Lamb Society eV has given us a painting by the artist so that we can sell it. The artist's daughter, Mrs. Sheila Lamb, has waived all claims from the sale of the work SBI -679 - 2007 by handing over the painting.
We are celebrating the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the camp in April. It would be great if we could sell the painting by then to finance more name plaques.
