Leon Adriaans 1944- 2004
Leon Adriaans was born in Helmond. During his school days, his talent for drawing was noticed. Stone builder André Driessen encouraged the young artist to become one. Leon attended the Art Academy in Den Bosch (1963 - 1967). For many people, he was a typical Brabant artist/farmer. He worked as a farmer, carpenter and blacksmith during the day and as a painter in the evenings and at night. He always painted directly. He never made sketches beforehand. He completely went his own way. In addition to primitive geometric shapes in black, white and red, he used a single human figure or one of his beloved draft horses. He often painted waste material from his farm in Sint Michielsgestel, such as cattle feed bags, canvas and weathered wood.
In 2002, filmmaker Pieter Verhoef made the film portrait 'Eigen weg' about Leon Adriaans.
