In 1999 stapt Jan Hoet in de ring met kunstenaar Dennis Bellone om zijn museum, het S.M.A.K., in te huldigen.
"Voor buitenstaanders staat boksen gelijk met meedogenloos op andermans gezicht timmeren, maar dat is een simplistische benadering. Boksen is een complex en subtiel gebeuren. Het is een van de gruwelijkste sporten als het barbaars beoefend wordt, en een van de mooiste als stijl en intelligentie de boventoon voeren. Het is kunst. Ooit hoorden boksen en cultuur bij elkaar… maar wij zijn opgevoed in een denkwijze die alles uiteenrafelt.”
