Joseph Eugen Hörwarter (August 11, 1854 in Vienna – June 9, 1925) was an Austrian painter and art educator.
Hörwarter began his painting studies at the Vienna School of Applied Arts under Ferdinand Laufberger and was assistant to Michael Rieser and Albert Ilg from 1870 to 1875 and to Rieser from 1875 to 1876.
He then became a teacher at the Vienna State Drawing School, while at the same time continuing his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna under August Eisenmenger. From 1888 he became a teacher at the Graphic Teaching and Research Institute in Vienna. His students included Ferdinand Pamberger, Fritz Rojka and Oskar Larsen.
He regularly took part in the exhibitions of the Vienna Künstlerhaus. Joseph Eugen Hörwarter created genre paintings, historical paintings, portraits and illustrations of classic editions.
