  • Rovers is known, among other things, as the graphic artist of the Olympic poster of the 1928 Amsterdam games and other advertising posters from that period (including for Rotterdamsche Lloyd).

Joseph Johannes (Jos) Rovers[1] (Utrecht, December 15, 1893 – Amsterdam, October 7, 1976) was a Dutch sculptor, graphic artist, painter, draftsman, book binding designer, etcher, illustrator and teacher at an academy. He is the father of Anton Rovers. He trained at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp under the guidance of Isidore Opsomer.

His working period was from 1908 to 1976, in Haarlem until 1930 and in Amsterdam from 1930 to 1976. His subjects were: landscapes, nude figures, cityscapes, portraits, still lifes, winter landscapes and poster design. He was a book cover designer for Uitgeverij and Drukkerij De Spaarnestad in Haarlem.

He was winner of the Royal Subsidy, the St. Luke's Prize in 1939, and the Silver Medal of the City of Paris in 1955 at the Dutch Exhibition. He was a member of Arti et Amicitiae in Amsterdam (chairman 1946-1948) and of the Vereeniging Sint Lucas in Amsterdam and a teacher at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam.
