Information about the artist:
Jet Naftaniel-Joëls (1950) was born in Amsterdam and studied free graphics at the Rietveld Academy Amsterdam, after which he studied portrait painting.
Until 1990 she illustrated children's books for various publishers.
In 1986 she started making ceremonial art in textiles and fibres. Since 2001 she has been making jewelery from waste and discarded products.
-Exhibitions: among others in Het Biblical Museum Amsterdam, Galerie de Synagoge in Buren, Gallerie Agnes Raben in Vorden, The Jewish Historical Museum in Amsterdam, Cobra Museum Amstelveen, De Lange Jan Middelburg, Galerie de Osseberg in Middelberg, Fiber Art San Francisco, Gallery Etienne de Wulf in Ghent, Museum Jan vd Togt in Amstelveen, Kunst-227 Amsterdam, glass gallery De Aventurijn Epe. A retrospective was shown in Aemstelle in Amstelveen. In December 2011 she was one of the artists who participated in the major retrospective exhibition on Judaism in the Nieuwe Kerk in Amsterdam.
Her textile work is regularly purchased and exhibited in various international museums, such as the Israel Museum Jerusalem, Jüdisches Museum Berlin, Jewish Museum New York and the Jewish Historical Museum in Amsterdam.
Apart from ceremonial art, she is mainly concerned with the upcycling of materials.
Jet Naftaniel-Joëls lives and works in Amsterdam and Amstelveen.
