Jeroen Hermkens studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Utrecht and the Atelier Lithographique Champfleury in Paris. Hermkens' cityscapes stand out because of their subtle choice of colour and purposeful, powerful stroke. Hermkens finds his inspiration in countries such as Italy, the South of France, Yemen and America, where he travels three to four times a year. In the Netherlands, he often goes out to find new motifs in nature: old railway bridges, empty factories and abandoned quarries. What is striking in his work is that people are missing. Hermkens says about this: "I think that I depict the world as it is made and inhabited by man. If you put people in between, it quickly becomes anecdotal and that detracts from the expressiveness. I work expressively, I make my own reality of it." His cityscapes are therefore expressive, radiate power and the choice of colour is subtle. He finds inspiration in various places, both in the Netherlands and abroad. In addition to lithography, Jeroen has increasingly focused on painting in recent years. The interaction between the two is clearly visible. Jeroen has already won several prestigious awards. For example, in 1996 he received the Dutch Graphic Prize for his lithographs. He was also chosen as 'Artist of the Year 2006'. His work is also popular in foreign cities such as New York, Vienna and New Orleans. In 2000, CNN showed a film about his work worldwide! In the Netherlands, his work can be admired in various museums, including the Centraal Museum in Utrecht. Abroad, Jeroen had an exhibition in the Musée Departemental de l'Oise in Beauvais, for example.
